Just a quick update from Texas Bully Breed Outreach — the AG will not be issuing an opinion on BSL.

The Rep. who replaced Tony Goolsby on the committee did not re-submit the request for an opinion, which was necessary when Rep. Goolsby left and a different chair took over.

So, no opinion for now unless the new chair asks for one.

It is worth noting that the Oklahoma AG has issued two opinions upholding that state’s prohibition on BSL.

Thanks for your comment. In Florida, this was the case which is why Miami-Dade has BSL. In Texas, when state law was changed in 1991 it did not grandfather in BSL. Richardson actually had BSL at that time and dropped it. Oklahoma is the same which is why OKC, Midwest City and Del City have all had their BSL defeated in the court system. I forgot to update it, but in the Midwest City case listed above, the owners did in fact prevail over the city on appeal.

No one in Texas or OK should tolerate being ticketed or having their dogs removed due to breed alone.

From my understanding of the law, if a community had BSL before the statute forbidding it came into being that community’s ordinance is still legal due to grandfathering in. I’m not a lawyer nor have I studied the law but according to reports I have read the above is true. That is why some Texas cities do have bsl.

This makes me so angry. I just don’t understand how people are not getting it. BSL does not work! The people who neglect their animals or train them for fighting will always be there unless the laws to PROTECT animals are strengthened. If they get rid of my babies, it will just be someone else’s babies that are turned mean…I’ve seen many mean labs for all the Marley lovers out there. And that’s actually a perfect example. Marley wasn’t mean, but he was untrained and unpredictable. Those are the two BIGGEST things I see in a family pet that bites a child.

I just found out about this site and I am SO excited! I have three bully breed or bully breed mixes and love talking with other people who face some of the same challenges AND joys that these dogs bring into our lives.

I’m REALLY wanting to start a bully breed weekly walk where we can get together and just go for a nice walk, in the open, where people can see lots of these dogs getting along. Obviously only socialized and well behaved dogs need apply, lol. My dogs get excited around other dogs but I won’t allow any fighting or aggression.

Hey, I just found your site, my aunt just had a litter of puppies that were pit-mix, a friend of hers helps out at a shelter and they found all of her puppies except 2 females homes , and the females dont have homes because they “look like pits” and according to them the people that wanted them couldn’t take them because they can’t have pits in Boulder, Colorado *sorry i cant spell that good** if there’s anything i can do to help lemme know, im a proud owner and i dont want to lose my dogs =*]

This is just another case of labeling pit bulls as a dangerous breed. It is worong to lable a dog dangerous when the owners of the dogs make them dangerous. The ones that should be put away is the owner of the dogs who dont take care of them.
I know from adopting a pit that you can take a pit home that u did’nt raise and with good owners that dog can be a family dog.
Most of my pits that i have were adult dogs that were’nt talken care of right. Any dog is a dangerous breed they think like pack dogs and if any dog is’nt raise right that it will be a dangerous dog. and this is what has happen with, pits bad owners.
This fairy tail of pits being a monster needs to stop. We need to stop letting bad owners get away with raising dogs wrong.
There need to be more laws holding owners Responsible for not raiseing pits right

absolutly redicoulous i own a pit bull and I’ve done nothing but raise him right and for someone to make me get rid of him is honestly telling me to get rid of one of my family member how would Wesselhoft feel if someone told him one of his family members wouldnt reside in Oklahoma. I doubt he’d appreciate it. humans can be dangerous guess what thats what laws are for to put them behind bars let a certain dog be punished for its actions not a breed. It’s a very horrible prejudice and I will never vote for this man.
